Analysis, Modelling and Design of Masonry Structures
organised by Prof. B.A. Izzuddin
Imperial College London, UK
and Dr L. Macorini
Imperial College London, UK
Session Aims and Scope
This session aims to present the most recent developments in the modelling, analysis and design of masonry structures. The focus is on computational methods and applications, thus particular attentions will be given to new mechanical descriptions, novel numerical techniques for nonlinear analysis but also to new experimental work for model validation and computer based approaches for practical design. The general theme is masonry, including historical and new structures (e.g. buildings, bridges) as well as strengthening solutions. Papers on the research topics listed below are particularly welcome.

Research areas:

  • Mechanical properties
  • Meso-, macro- and multi-scale models
  • Masonry under extreme loading (earthquake, blast)
  • Masonry bridges
  • Historical buildings
  • Rehabilitation and strengthening
  • Heterogeneous systems (e.g. infilled frame structures)
  • New structural solutions
