Masonry constructions: models and applications
organised by Dr M. Girardi
Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologie dell'Informazione "A. Faedo"
Pisa, Italy
Session Aims and Scope
Assessing the safety of masonry constructions is a very complex task that involves various types of expertise and technologies. On the one hand, numerical and analytical models for simulating the mechanical response of masonry are by now effective, well established tools, while the complexity of the problems involved prompts researchers to propose even more sophisticated and innovative models. On the other, experimental analyses and in situ assessment techniques allow obtaining valuable information to support and validate the modelling.

The aim of this session is to highlight all aspects of safety assessment and numerical modelling of masonry constructions. Special emphasis will be placed on computational modelling and its applications to historical buildings. Other topics of great interest include experimental and in situ monitoring techniques, analytical modelling and new constitutive models.
