4-7 September 2012
Mechanics of Pressurized Membranes
organised by Prof. A. Eriksson
KTH, Stockholm, Sweden
Session Aims and Scope
Membranes pressurized by fluids or gases exist in many biological as well as engineering contexts. Their analysis is very demanding due to the sensitivity in response. Added complexity comes from the description of acting loads on an often severely deforming membrane surface, commonly leading to a modification of the load configuration. Numerical modeling of the structures inherit all the fundamental complexities, but are also affected by discretization techniques and numerical representation. This session focuses on the behavior of the pressurized membranes, with a wide view on applications, and in particular welcomes discussions on the analytical and numerical modeling techniques.
