Novel Numerical Methods in Solid Mechanics
organised by Prof. L. Godinho
University of Coimbra, Portugal
and Dr D. Dias da Costa
University of Coimbra, Portugal
Session Aims and Scope
In recent years, a number of novel numerical models have been proposed to model solid mechanics problems. Many of these methods are based in a spatial description of the model by points (such as in Meshless methods) or in enrichment strategies of elements or nodes of the classic finite element method (such as in the GFEM, XFEM or EFEM). The focus of this special session is the application of these novel numerical tools to non-trivial solid mechanics problems, including (but not restricted to):
  • Vibration and elastodynamics;
  • Fluid-structure interaction;
  • Fracture and crack propagation;
  • Material interfaces;
  • Transient problems;
  • Linear and nonlinear analysis.
For specific questions regarding the scope of this session please contact the organiser:
