Information for All Participants

Conference Timetable

The conference will start at 9.30 on Tuesday 7 September 2004 with the opening lectures. The conference will officially close at 16.30 on Thursday 9 September. The registration desk will be open from 8.15 to 17.00 on every day of the conference. On Monday 6 September the registration desk will also be open from 16.30 to 19.00 for pre-registration.

Presentation Facilities (UPDATED!!!)

The presentation time for contributed papers is 15 minutes. This includes question time. All presentation rooms will be equiped with an overhead projector and networked powerpoint presentation system:

• In the preview room (near the conference desk) at LNEC, you will be able to upload your presentation from media to a centralized server. A technician will be on hand to help you with the uploading and explain the procedure to you. The preview room will be signposted.
• In each presentation room a networked PC will be available, connected to the projector. This PC can only be used to run your presentation. It can not be used for uploading or modification of your presentation or any other purpose.
• All presentation PCs are equipped with Microsoft Powerpoint XP, which is said to be compatible with any previous version of Powerpoint.
• Accepted media formats for the uploading are: 1.44Mb 3.5in floppy disk, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or USB pen drive.
• The video projectors have a resolution of 1027*768 SVGA. Please take this into account when designing your presentation.
• The preview room will be open from 8:00 to 18:00 on 7, 8 and 9 September and from 14:00 to 18:00 on 6 September (the day before the conference). Please do not leave the uploading to the very last moment before your session starts.
• To avoid incompatibilities, please use only default fonts (times new roman, arial, tahoma, etc.) or embed fonts (see the powerpoint help system for instructions).
• Please make sure all objects in your presentation are embedded and not linked.
• Be prepared for all other eventualities and bring a copy of your presentation on overhead transparencies. Please note that LNEC will not be able to print your presentation for you. You will have to do this yourself beforehand.
• Any other technical questions will be forwarded to LNEC, but as Portugal closes down for holidays in August, you may not receive an answer in time.

If you have a non-powerpoint presentation, that can not be printed on overhead transparencies, you could bring your own laptop computer. Please note that there may be delays because you will have to swap video cables. Please make sure you know how to switch your laptop into external display-mode. Your presentation time may be shortened as a result of this delay. Therefore please do not bring a laptop if you can use the powerpoint system or transparencies.
