Models for Railway Vehicle-Infrastructure Interaction
organised by Prof. J.E. Abdalla Filho
PUCPR/UTFPR, Brazil
and Dr T. Mazilu
University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania
Session Aims and Scope
Early attempts to model the behaviour of railway structures date from the 19th century when ordinary differential equation models were employed. The development of numerical techniques allied to the advent and fast progress of digital computing have allowed for the development of sophisticated modelling of the interaction between railway vehicles and infrastructure, such as rails and bridges, or the phenomena of instability. The last three decades have shown increasing progress in the field as two and three-dimensional models have been proposed. Furthermore, investigations on localized aspects of the problem, involving analytical, numerical or experimental studies, have contributed to the development of more refined models.

This Session aims at bringing together researchers and professionals from universities, research institutes and industry to discuss the modelling of railway vehicle-infrastructure interaction.

Contributions are welcome on the following and related topics:

  • Coupling between vehicle and infrastructure
  • Track irregularities modelling
  • Contact modelling
  • Structural dynamics of railway vehicle and infrastructure
  • Modelling the vehicle - track interaction at the limit of stability - the anomalous Doppler effect and the hunting
  • Finite element modelling
  • Numerical techniques
  • Analytical and semi-analytical procedures
  • Experimental analysis
  • Software development
