Special Session Call for Papers:
Special Session: RW2016-S01
Railway Research Commercialization: Economy, Technology and Society
Session Aims and Scope
Railway’s competitive advantage in today’s fast-changing markets and societal conditions requires different approaches to research & development. New technologies to succeed can no longer rely on conventional practices of trial-and-error, with long and costly development cycles. New approaches for technology management are imposed to the sector, affecting all the concerned parties (at organizational and systemic levels; from knowledge, design, manufacturing, operations and use of technology). Further challenges lie in addressing complex innovation systems, financial viability of research, assessment of impacts and public support.
This multidisciplinary session aims at bringing together researchers and experts from various fields reporting on the current state of management of railway technology research & development. The discussion should promote the interaction and collaboration among universities, research centers, railway operators, public-institutions and industry in order to identify problems, propose solutions and indicate directions to technology market-uptake and to decrease possibilities of market-failure.
The Session will joint engineers (from all quadrants of rail technology system) and social scientists sharing the common goal of research commercialization. Mechanical, Civil and Electrical experts, Economists, Social and Political scientists and practitioners of research management will also share their experience, knowledge and recent developments.
This Session will cover, but not limited to, the following topics:
