Session Aims and Scope
Pantograph-catenary interaction plays a key role in electric railway operation, representing one of the most critical interfaces between the rolling-stock and the infrastructure. The dynamic interaction between pantograph and overhead line heavily influences the quality of the current collection essential for assuring proper power supply to the electrical traction drives to reach and maintain the vehicle operating speed. In this respect, the pantograph-catenary interaction constitutes one of the limiting factors for increasing the train speed, especially when considering high speed operation. The pantograph-catenary interface also represents one of the main obstacles to rolling stock interoperability, since each country had developed its own overhead line equipment and optimised its pantographs accordingly.
This session aims at bringing together researchers and experts from universities, research institutes and industry to discuss different aspects of pantograph-catenary interaction. The session will cover, but is not limited to, the following topics:
